China Wanda Group bought Legendary Pictures for $3.5 billion

On Jan 12, China Wanda Group in Beijing announced they bought Legendary Pictures for $3.5 billion, which is the biggest overseas acquisition in Chinese culture industry. Thomas Tull, the board chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures will remain in office to continue to be responsible for the company's daily operations.

Legendary Pictures is a famous American media company based in Burbank, California. The company was founded by Thomas Tull in 2004 and its Business including movies, TV, digital media and animation, etc. A lot of well-known movies which Has accumulated more than $12 billion in global box-office like Batman Begins, Inception, The Hangover, Jurassic World, 300: Rise of an Empire, Pacific Rim and Man of Steel were produced by Legendary Pictures. In 2016, Legendary Pictures is going to launch Warcraft which was adapted according to Blizzard Entertainment’s award-winning games and invest in Great Wall, the biggest sino-us co-production movie.

Wang Jianlin, the chairman of Wanda Group said that the purpose of buying Legendary Pictures is Making Wanda film become the world’s biggest movie company. Wanda Group will create more market opportunities for Legendary Pictures after the merger, especially in the rapid growth of Chinese film market, making the performance of high-speed growth.

Thomas Tull said he is very honored to become a member of Wanda Group and will make Legendary Pictures become a new international entertainment company together.
